Movie Review – Bad Moms (2016)
Bad Moms is a movie about an overworked mom who is tired of pleasing everyone except herself. Sound like real life? Well, only if you are a mom! This must see movie needs to be watched by anyone who is a mom, wants to be a mom, knows a mom or is married to a mom! It is a rated R comedy which released in July 2016 (Theaters) and November 2016 (DVD). It gets a 3.7 out of possible 5.0 on audience reviews as of November 2016.
Mila Kunis is amazing and believable in the roll of the overworked mom Amy. Her friends Carla, played by Kathryn Hahn and Kiki, played by Kristen Bell are just as amazing. Christina Applegate plays an overbearing perfectionist mom, Gwedolyn. Each actress plays a different kind of mom. Gwendolyn friends, Stacy, played by Jada Pinkett Smith and Vicky, Annie Mumolo are typical bullies friends.
Watching each character evolve through the movie was not only entertaining but made me go through my own motherhood. Many moms will be able to relate to each character in some way. The movie was not sappy and boring. The writers were able to bring humor to tough situations.
A bully PTA president, Gwendolyn, rules the moms and school. Amy runs against her for PTA president. Her platform is if you are not a perfect mom, vote for her. All the moms start sharing their insecurities and doubts and find support with each other.
They all start taking a look at their own treatment by their families. This is the part that many will be able to relate. I like how the writers were able to show this part of their lives without making it a sappy cliché. One of the best lines in the movie was when Amy made demands to her boss. She wanted to hire her own team with people that were over twelve. That made me laugh!
If you are in the mood for a comedy, I suggest watching Bad Moms. It is a great date, movie night or just relax night movie. There is strong language and some sexual situations, so it is not a movie for family night. Stay for the part after some of the credits. It is very worth the watch!
