Easter History And Tradition

Easter in 2023 will take place on Sunday, April 9th. The date of Easter changes each year because it is based on a lunisolar calendar, which takes into account both the sun and moon cycles. This means that Easter could be as early as March 22nd or as late as April 25th in the Gregorian calendar.

What Is Easter?

Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. It is also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, and marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and prayer that begins on Ash Wednesday.

Symbols Of Easter

Many people gather for family gatherings to celebrate Easter, often exchanging gifts or eating special meals together. The popular tradition of decorating hard-boiled eggs dates back centuries as well; originally painted red to represent Jesus’ blood shed for humankind’s sins, many now dye them in bright hues and use them as decorations around their homes or churches.

Other Traditions

Another popular tradition is attending sunrise services at church on Easter morning; this practice began in Germany during the 16th century and has been carried out by Christians throughout Europe ever since. Religious services are also often held over the course of Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday; these typically include Maundy Thursday (commemorating Jesus’ Last Supper) and Good Friday (the day he was crucified).

History Of Having Treats At Easter

The tradition of having treats on Easter dates back to the early 19th century. At this time, children would receive baskets filled with eggs, nuts, fruits, and sweets that had been blessed by a priest. This practice was believed to bring good luck and health for the year ahead. Over time, these traditional Easter treats have evolved into more modern versions such as chocolate bunnies and jelly beans.

The Easter Treats

Popular recipes include hot cross buns, simnel cake and florentines. These can be decorated with symbolic ingredients like edible gold leaf or colored icings in order to make them look more festive.

Alternatives

It is also becoming increasingly popular for people to give vegan or gluten free alternatives of traditional Easter desserts in order to cater for dietary requirements of friends and family members attending an Easter celebration.  Fruit is another alternative for some dietary restrictions.  No matter what treat you choose to give at Easter time, it is sure to be appreciated by all!

Peeps Candy

Peeps are a beloved Easter candy that has been around since the 1950s. The iconic marshmallow treats come in a variety of shapes and colors, making them an ideal way to add a bit of extra festivity to any Easter celebration. The most common Peeps shape is a chick or bunny, but there are also seasonal shapes like eggs and other animals available. Peeps come in bright pastel colors, from yellow chicks to pink bunnies and blue eggs.
