Losing A PetLosing A Pet

Losing a pet can be one of the most devastating things to a pet owner.  Animals provide companionship and become part of the family, they are the furry family members.  I recently lost my 8 year-old dog to cancer.  I had to make the difficult decision to let him pass away on the surgery table.  Being that deciding factor of life or death was a tough position.  Through tears, I decided not to let him wake up in more pain.

Family and Friends
Family and friends helped me in dealing with the loss of my pet.  Hearing other’s stories of losing a pet also helped.  It really makes one realize that this sort of thing happens and the decisions made were for the best.  I have lost pets before, but it was mainly due to age.  This was the first pet I have lost due to an un-treatable illness.  The helpless feeling is agonizing, as you cannot help your pet.

The Vet
One thing did help.  Vet professionals and office staff at Safari Vet were kind and sympathetic.  Even when dealing with the bill they were delicate.  I never felt rushed or an imposition.  All my questions were answered.  My feelings were a top priority for them.

I had my pet cremated.  When he was returned to me, he was in a beautiful wooden box with his name carved on the top.  A certificate of death and a loving poem were included.  One thing that really made me think Safari Vet employees were sincere was a sympathy card I received.  Hand written notes of sympathy from everyone was written on the card.  This is a place that cares about my pet and me.

My pet will be missed dearly.  My days are lonely.  Will I get another pet?  Perhaps.  I do know that if I do, I will have them cared for by Safari Vet.
